Five Minute Friday – Awake

Standard

Well, kids, it’s Friday agian and you know what that means…  For fun, for love of the sound of words, for play, for delight, for joy and celebration at the art of communication.

For only five short, bold, beautiful minutes. Unscripted and unedited. We just write without worrying if it’s just rightor not.

AWAKE

When I am awake, I am at peace.  When I am awake I see people, really see them.  Awakening draws my habitual steps out of the quotidian and into the extraordinary details to be found there.

My days all run together with life at home.  Two loving barnacles and a never ending litany of need.  Sometimes want.  This need-filling, it puts me to sleep.  It sings softly to me asking me to tune out the tiger in the living room and the baby upstairs that did not sleep.  It rocks me gently through the motions of the washer or the never ending clothespins and lulls me into the soapy waters of the kitchen sink.  The need filling has become so normal, so repetitive, comfortable, quotidian, that I do not always see.

So, at risk of not hearing you, not seeing you, of missing out on the details that define our journey across this fleeting landscape, I remember from time to time and shout… WAKE UP! …and the eyes of my heart snap to attention.

  1. Ooh you asked so nicely I had to comply!
Love that you peeled off the barnacles to write this morning.
Its so easy to go through life with blinders on that I pray the eyes of your heart are open more often – so you don’t have to shout.
I’m glad I met you today.
    Blessings,
    Felecia

    • Thank you Denise. I feel like it has been a long time since I’ve seen people consistently. Part of me knows that this too shall pass, and all too soon… I don’t want to wish it away, I want to revel in it.
